How to Save Time and Repurpose an Instagram Reel into a Carousel

Content creation, whether it is your favorite or least favorite activity in your business, can be time-consuming. Of course, there are a ton of tips, tricks, and time-saving hacks in the process, but one thing is true…

You spend your precious time and valuable energy creating content!!

Now, why wouldn’t you want to make that content work harder for you??

Enter content repurposing!!!

And while that seems like a big, bold, wild, and difficult concept, it really can be super simple. Let’s try it by transforming a high-performing Instagram Reel (like the one below) into a high-performing Instagram Carousel!

STEP ONE: Analyze your content

You can jump right onto Instagram and view your analytics inside of the platform!! You’ll want to take a look at all of the Reels you posted within the last year and see which ones performed the best. It is typically best to look at reach, likes, saves, and shares and see which piece(s) of content performs the highest.

For example - the Instagram Reel from above is one of the highest-performing Reels for Your Template Club as far as reach goes, and it has a TON of saves!\

STEP TWO: Expand on the concept of the Reel

Now you need to take a look at the content that you created, both the video and the caption, and you now have to figure out how to expand on that concept a little bit further or a little bit deeper.

For example - the Instagram Reel from above is a listicle of sorts, and we can expand on each of the points mentioned by explaining WHY it was put on the list in the first place. Some of these might be self-explanatory, but for some of them, the audience could use a little more context.

STEP THREE: Determine a goal for the piece of content

In this instance, the Instagram Reel being transformed into a carousel is going to be educational in nature. Which for you, might also be true the vast majority of the time. But a carousel can also have other goals such as:

  • Inspiration: maybe you had a Reel quote post, so you decided to create a carousel based on what that quote means to you, or how one might interpret it in their life

  • Entertaining: maybe your Reel was a funny meme, so you create a carousel with 5 pages of memes using the SAME GIF with different text

  • Promotional: maybe your Reel was selling a product of yours, and you can now create a carousel with more benefits, features, and testimonials surrounding that particular product

STEP FOUR: Create in Canva

Now - the fun part!! Once you have completed all of the steps above you can actually go in and create the content. Luckily, Your Template Club makes it SUPER easy to create carousel posts!

STEP FIVE: Repurpose the caption

Now you have three options when it comes to the caption for this repurposed piece of content:

  1. Re-use the EXACT same caption. People won’t notice. Promise.

  2. Re-word the same caption. Maybe add a little. Maybe take some things away.

  3. Re-do the caption. And you can make it even easier with caption templates.

Again - the whole idea behind repurposing a Reel into a carousel is to save you TIME!! But it is so much more beneficial than that. You know the concept already resonates with your audience, and you can continue to repeat your messaging for more impact and value for THEM. It truly is a win-win all around!!
